The Eppley Laboratory
Solar Radiation Instrumentation
The Eppley Laboratory was founded in the 1920's to specialise in the various subtle forms of measuring solar radiation. Their roof top measuring 'laboratory' has been monitoring the radiation received by the earth for 75 years!
Many detectors are still made by hand to ensure utmost reliability and long term measurement stability. Standard instruments include :
- PSP Precision Spectral Pyranometer
- '8-48' Black and White Pyranometer
- PIR Precision Infrared Radiometer
- NIP Normal Incidence Pyrheliometer
- TUVR Total Ultraviolet Radiometer
Solar Trackers
- AHF Absolute Cavity Radiometer
These instruments measure total or spectrally selected solar radiation. The ultimate radiometer is the Absolute Cavity Radiometer, a self calibrating reference standard. Accessories include Shaders and Shadow Bands, (to measure indirect solar and terrestrial radiation), shade disk adapter kits, integrators and amplifiers. All Eppley equipment is calibrated and referred to NIST, WRR or other standard.
